Definition of the glossary term Hephaestus

Hephaestus was the Greek god of fire, the forge, and blacksmithing. He was the son of Zeus and Hera, and the husband of Aphrodite.

Hephaestus was not physically attractive like the other Greek gods. He was born lame and disfigured. Hera, his mother, was so repulsed by him that she threw him from Mount Olympus at birth, only for him to be adopted by the sea goddess Thetis.
